Top 3 tips to Budget for Travel
It often baffles me when I see persons who seem to have loads of money do not travel as much. But it made me realise that travel is like everything else, it must be a passion and a like for people to actually do it. So ofcourse no amount of money in the world will make you travel if you do not see the need or have a liking to it. However, for the rest of us who have limited cash to spend on our LIKES passion for travel. We therefore need to make a very detailed budget of how we are going to afford our trips around the world. Here are my 3 top tips for traveling on a budget.
1. Start planning in Advance
This is top tip indeed, the sooner you decide you want to travel the sooner you can start researching and finding deals. I usually leave my dates and destination a bit flexible unless I have a certain reason for going somewhere at a specific time but even then I start looking early. This is important because travel sites usually have spontaneous deals to specific destinations at specific times. Therefore, the more flexible you are with these the better the chances of you getting a brilliant deal. Have an idea of where you want to go and when but leave room for spontaneity to jump on the deals as you see one. You can surely save a fortune with this. Also when planning in advance you can book tours and events at cheaper rates had you waited until last minute most times.
2. Start Saving
I always say if you want something badly enough you will find a way to get it. Same goes for travel, if you want to travel badly enough you will put aside a little every chance you get to go towards that goal. Calculate a rough amount of how much the trip would cost you (I would be doing a blog post on how to do this stay tune) and how long it will take to get you to that amount with an estimate of how much you would be able to put aside at a given time. For eg. You need $1000 for a trip in December, 6 months away i.e. 1000/6 you need to put aside $166.67 every month to achieve this goal. Looks and sounds more achievable now isn’t it? So you can start making your little sacrifices to achieve this now.
3. Travel like a local
This is so very good for saving during your trip and it’s unbelievably easy. People think when they travel they need to have loads of money and stay in the priciest resorts, eating the most expensive food and shopping in the most expensive places but this couldn’t be furthest from the truth. When I travel I love to travel authentically meaning I love to explore a country as a true local. This not only allows you to live the life of a local benefiting from low prices that have not been jacked up for ‘tourist’ but most importantly you get the real experience and not just what the destination is trying to sell you. As I always advise find someone you know at the destination. If not personally there are a number of groups that allows you to meet new people and form connections for e.g my own Fearless Female Traveller- Zanur Travel Supportive Community on fb. You can meet women from your travel destination, meet up, chat up and get super local tips. For local tours in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, check my tour packages here.
There you go my top 3 tips for budget travel. Now go out my little bird, spread your wings and start traveling.
Stay happy and blessed,
